Coaching Mainz: FAQ
What is coaching?
Coaching supports people on a case-by-case basis in a professional context to successfully deal with the challenges of everyday life. It is based on voluntariness, mutual respect and trust. The conversation aims to promote self-reflection and self-awareness. Awareness, responsibility and self-management are emphasized. Coaching is time-limited, result-, solution- and resource-oriented.
What do you think a coach should be able to do?
Professional coaches should be able to empathize with the customer's professional reality, ie ideally they should have their own professional experience as an employee, manager or entrepreneur (professional competence). From our point of view, a coach should enjoy working with people and should generally be convinced of the development abilities of others (personal competence). He should accompany you during the coaching with specific questions and methods to find your own solutions.
How long does a coaching session last?
The duration depends on the occasion and content of the conversation. A session is usually between 60 and 120 minutes, in a few exceptional cases 2 to 3 hours.
When does a coaching session make sense for me?
We are not victims of our circumstances, we are what we make of them. A personal conversation often creates clarity, a change of perspective and new strategies for quick and sustainable solutions. If you have the feeling that professional coaching would be a good and right step for you, then it is often worth trusting this feeling.
How do I know if you can help me with my request?
In a free preliminary telephone call, we can realistically assess whether we are the right contact person for your request. Clients often come to us with problems that they believe that no one else can understand or even solve, and are then quite surprised that the problems are not so unique and, above all, unsolvable.
Can I also get a coaching appointment as a working person?
We have flexible times in the early morning or late evening especially for working people. Feel free to contact us so that we can find a suitable date together. It is important that the appointment fits your schedule as well as your biorhythm, because the most effective way to start coaching is with energy, a fresh mind and motivation. We are flexible and adapt to your needs!

Mainz was founded by the Romans over 2000 years ago. As the capital with more than 200.000 inhabitants, Mainz is the largest city in Rhineland-Palatinate. The Johannes Gutenberg University and the Roman Catholic Diocese are part of the city center of Mainz, which lies within the ancient walls. In addition to the wide range of educational opportunities, Mainz is one of the three strongholds of the Rhenish carnival. Although the people in Mainz may seem a bit rural in contrast to the people in Wiesbaden, the love of life is celebrated in Mainz, especially in summer. Sometimes the Rhine-Hessian wine and the mild climate ensure a relaxed and easy-going mood in Mainz.

The state theatre, the many museums and various private stages complement this atmosphere with sights and lively culture. In terms of landscape, Mainz is surrounded by the vineyards of Rheinhessen and Rheingau. Downstream of the Rhine, near Bingen, the narrow Middle Rhine Valley with its many castles begins. Originally, the area around Mainz was a swamp area due to the conditions of the Rhine. In 13 BC the first Roman legionary camp was built on a hill above the old town of Mainz.

In addition to the Seven Electors, who ruled over the city of Mainz in the Middle Ages, the Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation also ruled. In addition, Mainz was temporarily the fortress of the German Confederation. Later, the historic city of Mainz was administered by Napoleon under French rule for a long time and was the capital of a French department. When German troops were liberated from Napoleon's occupation, Mainz suffered greatly and was almost destroyed. Towards the end of the Second World War, British bombers hit Mainz again and leveled 80 percent of the city.

The quality of coaching is generated in the joint cooperation between coach and coachee. Both parties are thus largely responsible for successful coaching. The coachee should be willing to engage in processes. In addition, factors such as mental abilities, life experience and what those around you think about coaching are influential. Through a well-founded clarification of the assignment before coaching, the coach can influence the surrounding framework conditions of the coachee in a supportive manner. This creates the basis for high coaching quality. Coaching Mainz, your partner for coaching and training.

Coaching Mainz: FAQ
What is coaching?
The term “coaching” comes from English and means something like “tutoring”. In today's usage it stands more for "help for self-help". In short, coaching is a very special form of management consulting, whereby the coach helps the "coachee" (coachee recipient) to approach the specific task independently and in a solution-oriented manner. The aim is sustainable, lasting change through insight into one's own personality structure, the detection of resources and learning new behavior. The coach acts as an attentive listener, sparring partner, source of inspiration, mentor, motivator and mental trainer.
For whom is coaching useful?
In principle, coaching makes sense for people who are willing to grow personally, act independently and work actively and whose ability to control themselves is intact. Coaching is also particularly in demand for people who are facing a particular challenge or have to overcome a crisis. For many professionals, for whom it is important to maintain their professional performance and to face changes positively, coaching is also very important. Coaching is also an ideal tool for executives who want to further develop their leadership personality. In short, everyone who wants to align their life in a meaningful and value-oriented way.
What can coaching achieve?
Coaching is a highly effective form of introspection and self-awareness with a lasting effect. More and more people are discovering the clarifying and beneficial effect of this special type of career and life counseling and appreciate the professional support provided by a coach during change processes. Coaching is always a game with perspectives, an impetus for self-reflection, a promoter of personal growth and reflection on the essentials. Coaching brings about clarification, minimization of disturbances, motivation, increase in performance and development of potential. Clarification by illuminating the situation in all areas of life, as well as by finding oneself and meaning. Minimizing disruption through conflict resolution, behavior change, mental hygiene and stress management. Motivation by strengthening self-confidence and self-esteem. Increased performance by improving communication skills and dealing with challenges constructively. Development of potential by recognizing your own strengths, goal orientation and dynamic implementation of personal goals.
Differentiation between coaching and therapy?
The boundary between coaching and therapy is blurred. It used to be said that coaching was more future- and solution-oriented and therapy was more problem-, symptom- and past-oriented. Therapy would primarily be about understanding how problems arose, how and by what means they are maintained and how one experiences and evaluates them. Today, elements of both coaching and therapy can be found in therapy and coaching practice. The most important difference lies in the client himself. Therapy is indicated for mental disorders such as depression, anxiety and compulsions that have the character of an illness. A professional coach must therefore be able to recognize the symptoms of mental illnesses so that he knows when his limit has been reached. In coaching, the client and coach are in a relationship similar to a consultant, no psychotherapeutic work is performed.
In which cases is psychotherapy the drug of choice?
Psychotherapy is no longer taboo today. Every person has their unique biography and their unique way of processing psychological conflicts and transforming them on a physical and mental level. This is a natural process. Important for the success of a therapy are the will and willingness to change, transparency and comprehensibility of the therapeutic interventions as well as a patient-therapist relationship characterized by empathy, respect, trust and appreciation. Psychotherapeutic interventions are primarily considered in the case of stress, burnout, bullying, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, compulsion and addiction, stress reactions, crises, adjustment disorders, and grief reactions. Sometimes it is not clear whether coaching or psychotherapy is the right solution for the client. In the initial consultation, questions are therefore also asked about the mental state. In case of doubt, no coaching mandate will come about.
Differentiation between coaching and mental training?
Mental training is a spiritual, ideologically and religiously independent technique for achieving personal goals and solving problems. Mental training is based on universal laws, in particular the principle of cause and effect. What is caused on the spiritual plane manifests itself in reality on the material plane. In other words, if you want to achieve something, you have to think and feel from the goal with the absolute certainty that you are already there. We encounter particularly impressive evidence of mental training in sports; here, mental training is now a normal part of everyday training. Victories are only possible with an optimal mental attitude. This also applies to the very personal victories in life. Coaching subsumes a whole range of methods and techniques.
How do I find the right coach?
Coaching is a matter of trust, so choosing a good coach is fundamental. The \"right coach\" means that the coach is right \"for you\". In the first meeting, ask your coach how he understands coaching and how he proceeds, which procedures or methods he uses. Ideally, you will get to know the coach in a first non-binding conversation and find out whether he is the \"right coach\" for you. Professional coaching organizations and associations have defined the following basic qualifications for a \"successful coach\": Reflected life experience, seniority, professional qualifications in the consulting environment (field competence), management experience (business coach), procedures and methodological competence (further training and supervision)
When should I see a coach?
A life coach or a business coach is usually your first point of contact if you are looking for a sparring partner on an equal footing. Maybe you've been turning a "problem" around in your head for a while and can't find a solution. Effective questions open up new areas of solution and you can look at your "problem" from a new perspective. This is not about therapy and it is not about advising you. A coach supports you in finding your own solution.
What is the difference? Business Coach, Personal Coach, Health Coach
A life coach focuses on the issues of life: family relationships, couple relationships, decision-making processes, unhappy in life, dream job, planning your own career outside of the company or realigning life. A business coach is usually hired by a company to encourage employees who are Teamimprove performance, check transfers or support career planning. In this case, three parties are always involved: a coach, an employee and the company. All parties are equal partners at eye level. A health coach incorporates elements of Timothy Gallwey's coaching and has expert knowledge of nutrition, exercise and other sports-related topics. It's about increasing performance, achieving concrete goals in the personal area and using tips and tricks Team or to assist an individual.
How long does a coaching session last?
A coaching session usually lasts between 45 and 90 minutes. In most cases, two to ten coaching appointments are necessary until you have found a good solution for yourself. But since this is very individual, we don't want to generalize. We would be happy to arrange a suitable package with you. Coaching should be voluntary and fit you and your life.
Business and personal coaching costs
The cost of coaching varies greatly depending on the issue. We will be happy to make you a concrete offer on request or as part of a free preliminary discussion.
When is the right time to go to a coach?
There is no wrong or right time. If you feel that you need support with certain topics, you should consult a coach.
How do you recognize the right coach?
Coaching is a fine art. The coach assumes a great deal of responsibility by accepting the assignment. The recommendations for action that the coach gives the coachee can have a decisive impact on the life of the coachee. Incorrect or ill-considered recommendations for action can therefore be harmful. The basis for successful coaching is the experience of the coach and the chemistry between the coachee and the coach.
So why doesn't everyone have a coach?
Every person is different. Some are very strong in their self-reflection, other people find it very difficult to deal with themselves. 80% of people don't want to know anything about personal problems. Problems are repressed, downplayed or ignored. If you speak to this group of people about their problems, they immediately react with rejection. Problems are perceived as negative by this group of people and not as an opportunity to change something. Therefore, confrontation with problems is categorically avoided by this group of people.
Can you coach anyone?
The answer is yes. You can, but not everyone is receptive to coaching. There are people who are interested in being coached, but if you confront these people with their own challenges, they immediately react with rejection. This group of people is willing to listen, but not ready to actively go through the change process. A second group of people does not even take up coaching because they simply do not recognize the challenges. They simply lack the necessary ability to reflect. For these people, no problems means no need to change anything about the situation. A third group of people differs significantly from groups one and two. These people are willing to be coached and ready for change. However, during the process of change (see diagram - change and coaching process (after Holtbernd & Kochanek, 1999, p. 173), these people are confronted with the shock of reality. This leads to 20% of the coachees withdrawing and the coaching to temporarily terminate.
Is coaching really worth the money?
It takes a lot of courage to take advantage of coaching, because you have to admit that there are issues that you cannot deal with on your own. It takes even more discipline to stay tuned and to actively shape the change process. Important milestones are the 10 steps of coaching: Orientation, balancing, departure, facing yourself, the shock of reality, withdrawal, daring to do something new, constant monitoring, and satisfaction through achieving the set goal. With the coaching you set a change process in motion that you would not have tackled without the coach. The money is an investment in your own development. Many of our clients recognize the benefit of the coaching after the first session - the necessary financial investment thus recedes into the background. It is always important to remember that the investment is an investment in your personal development and is not intended to provide the coach with any financial benefit.
Which topics are specifically discussed during coaching?
80% Professional issues Career development People management Politics Toxic corporate culture Disorientation Lack of prospects Preparation for a new position 20% Personal issues Relationship crises Identity crises Communication problems Doubt Burnout Disorientation
What skills distinguish a good coach?
Many think that an excellent coach must also be a good listener. That is only partly true. A good coach, i.e. a coach who stands out from the crowd, must have a high level of empathy, in technical jargon this competence is called social intelligence. Every coach needs the ability to listen carefully, but also the ability to identify problem areas at lightning speed and address them directly. The client has the right to be confronted with the problem immediately. Nobody wants to waste valuable time during coaching and beat around the bush for hours. Therefore, a coach who cannot take off his velvet gloves during coaching is not a good coach!
What excites you about working with clients?
Each problem is different and challenging in its own way. If clients are willing to open themselves up to the change process, you can already see success in coaching after the first or second session. The small and large successes trigger a wave of enthusiasm in the coach and coachee. Most of the time you hear sentences like "I didn't expect that" or "The coaching changed my life". Who doesn't like to hear that when you have had a positive effect on other people's lives through your work and expertise. No matter how often you hear or experience it. That feels good every time.
Does the coaching take place face-to-face or online?
For some of my clients it is hardly possible to take advantage of face-to-face coaching due to time constraints or physical distance. In these cases I offer coaching units via zoom. Online coaching is easy to use and effective for most topics, but there are exceptions where I only offer face-to-face coaching units with regard to successful goal achievement. Whether face-to-face, online coaching or a mixed form, we are happy to clarify in the first meeting.
